Overview
Clinical examination and the prescription and interpretation of special investigations form the cornerstone of contemporary oral diagnoses and treatment planning in dental practice.

This CPD Masterclass aims to provide candidates with the necessary evidence-based knowledge to assess restorability, differentially diagnose various oral diseases and conditions using an array of investigations, including dental imaging, and justify the need for such special investigations. Moreover, candidates will also get the opportunity to apply and share the acquired knowledge in the form of small-group, case-based, clinical discussions.

Key Outcomes:
•  
Acquire fundamental knowledge of contemporary examination techniques and oral diagnosis skills using a systematic and evidence-based examination and analysis approach
•  Provide justification for prescribing an array of special investigations using a myriad of clinical tools as part of differential diagnosis
•  Arrive at an evidence-based justification for a definitive oral diagnosis
•  Apply acquired knowledge and critical thinking skills in the form of real-life clinical scenarios as part of a facilitated small-group case-based learning approach
•  Share and present clinical findings with other groups in the form of a peer-assisted learning approach

This Masterclass represents 3.5 CPD hours.

Dr Khaled Ahmed
PhD, MSc RestDent, FPros, FDS RCSEng, FFGDP RCSEng, FCGDent, FHEA, LLM (MedLaw&Ethics)

Khaled joined Griffith University in November 2018 as a Senior Lecturer in Prosthodontics. Prior to that, Khaled was Assistant Dean (Undergraduate Education) and Programme Director/Head of Operative Dentistry at the University of Hong Kong between 2014 – 2018. Khaled completed his prosthodontics Fellowship at the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Clinical Master’s degree in restorative dentistry from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. While teaching restorative dentistry as a Clinical Academic Fellow at the University of Glasgow School and Hospital, Khaled successfully completed his PhD in 3D technology and tooth wear, as well as a postgraduate certificate in academic practice. He is also a Fellow of the Faculty of Dental Surgery and the Faculty of General Dental Practice at the Royal College of Surgeons (England), a Fellow of the UK’s College of General Dentistry, and a Fellow of the UK’s Higher Education Academy. Khaled was also awarded a Master of Laws degree specialising in Medical Law and Ethics with merit from the University of Edinburgh. Khaled’s research background and expertise are in Digital Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Tooth wear, and Dental Education with several peer-reviewed, high-impact publications, multiple internal and external, competitive research grant awards, and national and international guest speaker invitations. He is also a peer reviewer for the Journal of Prosthodontic Research, the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, and the Journal of Prosthodontics, amongst others.
