Overview: 
This CPD Masterclass will focus primarily on protocols and current developments in infection control in the practice of dentistry and the responsibilities of dental practitioners and their clinical support staff. It includes developments that have been driven by the COVID-19 pandemic, including transmission-based precautions. The content of this masterclass has been fully updated for 2023.

This masterclass is particularly relevant to registered dental practitioners of all types and dental assistants, especially those who have not recently undertaken an infection control course.

The masterclass is delivered in a series of videos, which participants watch over several weeks from 3 April, followed by an online live question and answer session. This ensures that participants have the opportunity to work through all the videos before the Q&A in April. 

  • Pre-recorded lectures and lecture notes will be accessible via Learning Management System from Monday, 3 April 2023
  • Live question and answer session is held online via Zoom from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM AEST on Wednesday, 19 April

  • Emeritus Prof Laurence Walsh AO

    Laurie is a specialist in special needs dentistry. He is based at the University of Queensland, where he has worked for 37 years, and continues to contribute to special needs dentistry postgraduate training. He leads the research group in clinical microbiology and advanced technologies and has authored over 200 publications on microbiology and 75 on infection control. He is the 2022 Chair of the ADA Infection Control Committee and has been on the ICC for over 20 years, including serving as the editor of the ADA Guidelines for Infection Control since 2010. Emeritus Prof Laurence Walsh advises a range of government agencies on infection control issues and undertakes audits for regulators. He has been lecturing and examining in Microbiology for the College since 1999.
