Lecture: Covid-19 and the implications for the future practice of dentistry
This lecture will explore the ways that dentistry could be different in 2021 and beyond as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, ranging from patient triage, appointment planning (“slow dentistry”), on-site screening, risk-based precautions and aerosol reduction, through to vaccinations and the larger public health approaches to containment.
Presenter: Emeritus Professor Laurence J. Walsh AO
Bio: Emeritus Professor Laurie Walsh is a specialist in special needs dentistry. He has undertaken research in applied clinical microbiology and infection control for over 35 years, and he served as chief examiner in microbiology in the RACDS Primary fellowship from 1999-2020. Laurie is the 2021 chair of the ADA’s national Infection Control Committee, and he represents dentistry on the National Clinical Taskforce and on several committees of Standards Australia that deal with infection control matters. Laurie has just commenced a second term on the Board of the College.
