Dr Elizabeth Fanning Scholarship

RACDS is committed to supporting the dentists of tomorrow.

The Dr Elizabeth Fanning Scholarship aims to support final year dentistry students and early career dentists develop their basic sciences skills as they relate to dentistry and assist in the preparation for the Primary Dental Sciences Examination.

Each year the RACDS issues two Dr Elizabeth Fanning Scholarships valued at the cost of enrolment for the Primary Dental Sciences Preparation Course. Attendance can be deferred one year.

Current dental students in their final year or dentists within 2 years of registration in their jurisdiction from Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the Middle East.

Applicants are required to submit a completed application form online, along with the following documentation to the RACDS by the nominated closing date:

  • Letter in PDF file outlining why you should be considered for this scholarship, including an outline of the selection criteria in 800 words.

  • Why you are pursuing a pathway to RACDS Fellowship (25% weighting)
  • Any notable accomplishments you have achieved while completing your primary dental qualification (50% weighting)
  • Your plans for the future of your career in dentistry (25% weighting)

Applications are open from 1 December to 1 March each year and have now closed. The winner will be announced 6 weeks after the closing date.

RACDS First Nations Scholarship

The RACDS recognises that people of Indigenous backgrounds face many challenges, including the opportunities to undertake further professional development. The RACDS is committed to supporting Indigenous people to be future leaders of the College and the profession.

The RACDS First Nations scholarship aims to support funding of Indigenous dentists to undertake further training or education, either internal or external to the College. This could be in dentistry or leadership/management/governance.

Each year the RACDS provides one First Nations scholarship for an Indigenous dentist valued at up to $5,000 AUD.

  • Currently hold a dental registration in the country of residence and are in good standing.
  • Resident of Australia and/or New Zealand.
  • Dentists who are of Indigenous descent/identify as Indigenous and are accepted as such by that community in which they live or have lived.

Applicants are required to submit a completed application form online, along with the following documentation to the RACDS by the nominated closing date:

  • Letter in PDF file outlining why you should be considered for this scholarship, including an outline of the selection criteria in 800 words.
  • Evidence of current dental registration and good standing in the country of residence.
  • Letter of support from a representative of an Indigenous organisation (to which you are well known) confirming your Indigenous heritage.
  • Outline of the course you intend to use your scholarship for.

In awarding the scholarship, preference will be given to applicants who do not already hold any other scholarship or bursary. Applicants must declare on the application whether they hold a current scholarship or bursary.

RACDS Future Leaders/Diversity Scholarship

The RACDS strives to support future leaders of the College and the dental profession and promote equity and diversity in the College governance structure.

The RACDS Future Leaders/Diversity scholarship aims to support funding of leadership training for future leaders within the College, with a focus on increasing leadership skills in under-represented groups. Scholarships may be used for a variety of purposes that support the development of leadership, management or governance skills.

Each year the RACDS issues one Future Leaders/Diversity scholarship valued at up to $5,000 AUD.

  • Currently hold a dental registration in the country of residence and are in good standing.
  • Be a current RACDS Fellow, Member, Affiliate (or Subscriber) or an Associate member.
  • Able to demonstrate commitment to leadership within the community and profession.

Applicants are required to submit a completed application form online, along with the following documentation to the RACDS by the nominated closing date:

  • Letter in PDF file outlining why you should be considered for this scholarship, including an outline of the selection criteria in 800 words.
  • Evidence of current dental registration and good standing in the country of residence.
  • Evidence of commitment to leadership within the community and profession, such as a reference, proof of volunteering and community activities, leadership committee or club membership, articles and publications.
  • Outline of the course you intend to use your scholarship for.

RACDS Rural and Remote Scholarship

The RACDS recognises that dental practitioners who reside in rural or remote areas face additional challenges to undertake further professional development and aims to support future leaders of the College and the profession.

The RACDS Rural and Remote scholarship aims to support funding of dentists working in rural or remote locations to undertake further training education, either internal or external to the College. This could be in dentistry or leadership/management/governance.

Each year the RACDS issues one Rural and Remote scholarship valued at up to $5,000 AUD.

  • Currently hold a dental registration in the country of residence and are in good standing.
  • Be a current RACDS Fellow, Member, Affiliate (or Subscriber) or an Associate member.
  • Resident of Australia and/or New Zealand.
  • Currently lives and has lived in a regional or remote area for at least three consecutive years prior to applying for the scholarship.

Applicants are required to submit a completed application form online, along with the following documentation to the RACDS by the nominated closing date:

  • Letter in PDF file outlining why you should be considered for this scholarship, including an outline of the selection criteria in 800 words.
  • Evidence of current dental registration and good standing in the country of residence.
  • Documents proving permanent residential address (“principal home address”) in a regional or remote area for at least three consecutive years prior to applying for the scholarship. In Australia, the assessment of remoteness will be based on the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ Modified Monash Model (MMM) as outlined by www.doctorconnect.gov.au. In New Zealand, the assessment of remoteness will be based on the New Zealand Census of Population and Dwellings. Documents must be in the name of the applicant.
  • Outline of the course you intend to use your scholarship for.
